Thumb Moon

The moon was a thumbnail

A hole punch

A thumb hole

The moon was so flat in the sky.

A cut out, a cut and paste

A cut and taste,

A share and tear

The moon was a big lantern pie.

The moon was a painting,

A window

A pane

The moon was lustre, it was lithe.

The moon was batik.

It was Fabergé,

It was marble-like and blithe.

The moon was a belly button,

A scream

A clock

The watch of the watchful moon.

It brimmed, it bit,

It batted its lid,

Watching me in the living room.
