Kate Balding

Hello -
I'm Kate Balding, a London-based journalist.
From interviewing Sir David Attenborough to being pen pals with poet Wendy Cope, I’m a hands-on writer committed to connecting people through storytelling. Naturally collaborative, I have experience in co-founding an online sustainability magazine, editing an online student news outlet, producing and presenting podcasts and have worked across a variety of academic and professional settings within the UK and internationally.
Following an MSc in Nature, 'Society and Environmental Governance at the University of Oxford I have a particular interest in environmental and nature reporting and have produced content on a wide array of topics intersecting with climate change. These include sustainable architecture, environmental education, nature literacy, climate fatigue, urban nature and conservation.
I am currently undertaking a practice-led MA in journalism focused on mixed-media storytelling including data-driven, visual and investigative journalism; geolocation + OSINT; feature writing; podcasting; news reporting; media law training; FOI requests; sub-editing; production; communication theory and social media.
